Winemaking is surprisingly new to the Southern Highlands region--surprising because the crisp climate, with its clear, sun-baked summers and cool, frosty winters is ideal for wine growing. Chalkers Crossing produced their first vintage in 1999, to critical acclaim. These are new wines for the new millennium: crisp Sauvignon Blancs, soft peach flavoured Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignons, Shiraz, Riesling and Semillon from the Young, NSW vineyard. Chalkers also produce an award-winning range of olive oils, blended from 12 olive varieties from groves planted on the property.
