It sounds bizarre--ferries decked-out in lavish fancy dress, to say nothing of their champagne-imbibed passengers--but the Ferrython has become an absolute institution in Sydney. Every Australia Day ferries compete in this race, with other harbour craft also making a splashy appearance. Line honours are not important; elaborate decorations and a good laugh are. You can watch the Ferrython from the usual harbour-side vantage points: Circular Quay, The Rocks, Mrs Macquarie's Chair, Milsons Point and McMahons Point.
