If you had to nominate an Australian national dish, it would probably be the meat pie. Like those other quintessentially Australian icons (football, kangaroos and Holden cars), the meat pie has a way of evoking the patriot in all of us. King Wally's Pies have a bit of history to them too; they were one of the early winners of the Great Aussie Meat Pie competition at the Royal Easter Show. Made from light, flaky pastry and rich, hearty fillings, favourites like steak and mushroom, and shepherd's with peas and cheese sell like hotcakes.
