Established by the Lake family in 1963, Lake's Folly was the first new winery the Hunter Region had seen in 40 years. As a weekend diversion for founder Max Lake, it was not tipped for major success, hence the name. But succeed it did. These 12 hectares produce just two wines: a red (a Cabernet that is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot, shiraz, and merlot) and a white, which is 100 percent Chardonnay. All of Lake's Folly's fruit is estate grown, vintaged and bottled, with an average production of 5,000 dozen.
