Sydneysiders celebrate Boxing Day by turning out in their thousands to watch the start of this annual race. Conducted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia with the co-operation of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, crowds flock to vantage points to watch the spinnakers unfurl as the boats sail through the heads and out to sea, charting their course for this notoriously gruelling weeklong race. Travel to North Head, The Gap, or the cliffs around Vaucluse or get a little closer to the action by boarding a ferry.
